Horticulturalist
Job No:
ADC91
Location:
Ashburton
- Work in a nationally recognised Garden of Significance, contributing to local pride
- Join a dedicated team passionate about enhancing our community spaces
- Monday to Friday working week
What the job involves
As a Horticulturalist, you will help maintain and enhance our parks and gardens – including the Ashburton Domain, recently recognised as a Garden of Significance by the New Zealand Gardens Trust. This four-star rating is a testament to the quality and care invested in our open spaces, and you will be part of the team that keeps our green gem thriving.
Your day will include a variety of amenity horticulture tasks, such as gardening, spraying, weeding, trimming, edging, and pruning, along with machinery operation including mowing on a number of different machines (depending on your licences and qualifications).
This role offers challenge, satisfaction, and an extremely large ‘backyard’ to work in! Our standard working week is Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day starting at 7.30am, with occasional rostered weekend work.
Who are we looking for?
We’re seeking a friendly, physically fit individual with:
- A can-do attitude and a love for working outdoors
- Relevant experience in horticulture or a similar role is preferable, but team fit is the key element
- A full clean driver’s license is essential; HT or WTR endorsements are an advantage
Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, drug and alcohol testing will occur prior to and during employment.
What’s in it for you:
- Be part of a team maintaining a nationally recognised Garden of Significance
- Enjoy a diverse role in a supportive and passionate team, dedicated to delivering exceptional outcomes
- Ongoing training, health and wellness benefits, and a strong safety culture to keep you fit for work and life
- Birthday leave — because cake tastes better when you’re not at work
Plus, you’ll be based in Ashburton – a district offering an unrivalled lifestyle with Mt Hutt and Lake Hood at your doorstep, with Christchurch just down the road.
Ready to Apply?
If you’re passionate about horticulture and want to contribute to spaces that inspire and connect communities, we’d love to hear from you! Applications close Monday 19 January 2026.
