What the job involves
This exciting new role will see you lead our Collections & Exhibitions team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of all exhibition programmes and collection activities, while ensuring agreed budgets and targets are met.
You will provide mentoring and hands-on support to your team and build strong community relationships, working in partnership with iwi, cultural and minority communities to ensure the Ashburton Art Gallery & Museum is connected to Whakatere Ashburton’s diverse populations.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a passionate and proactive leader who is fully conversant with contemporary gallery and museum practice. You will have strong communication skills and the ability to mentor and support your team to achieve great outcomes. You will have sound technical knowledge and experience of the legislative requirements and practice standards associated with archive and object collections management.
You will have a relevant tertiary qualification and at least five years’ relevant work experience in an intermediate to senior role within a museum, gallery or other such organisation. Proven supervisory experience is preferred, and we require you to be committed to biculturalism, upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and have an understanding of tikanga Māori.
