Senior Finance Advisor
Job No:
ADC152
Location:
Ashburton
If solving complex financial problems is your idea of a good day, you have a knack for spotting when something doesn’t quite balance, and you enjoy finding smarter ways of doing things, we’d like to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing:
This isn’t your standard debits-in-one-column, credits-in-the-other finance role.
As our Senior Finance Advisor, you’ll work across our Finance and Financial Performance teams, getting stuck into the complex, unusual and sometimes curly issues that don’t always come with a handy step-by-step guide.
You’ll provide high-level financial advice and analysis, investigate financial and system issues, contribute to budgeting and forecasting, and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls and the way we work. You’ll also lend your expertise to governance reporting, audit, policy development and specialist projects across Council.

What You’ll Bring:
You know your numbers, but you also know there’s more to great finance advice than a spreadsheet.
You’re someone who:
- Loves getting to the bottom of a curly problem
- Can turn complex financial information into advice people actually understand
- Spots when something doesn’t add up and isn’t afraid to dig deeper
- Builds strong relationships and can confidently challenge the status quo
- Looks for smarter, simpler ways to get things done
- Brings solid senior local government finance experience to the table.
You’ll have a degree in Accounting or Finance and at least five years’ experience in a senior local government finance role. CAANZ registration and experience with TechnologyOne would be a bonus.
What's in it for you?
This is a chance to take on a genuinely varied senior role where your expertise will be valued and you’ll have the opportunity to influence how things are done across Council. And in Ashburton, you can build a great career without sacrificing the lifestyle outside of work.
- You’ll also enjoy:
- Flexible working arrangements and support for professional development
- Health and wellbeing benefits and additional leave options
- Relocation assistance if you’re making the move
- The lifestyle benefits of Mid Canterbury, with space to breathe, shorter commutes and affordable housing.
A great career move, a great place to live, and benefits that add up.
