Senior Lifeguard

Job No: ADC150
Location: Ashburton

If you’re looking for an opportunity to build leadership experience, develop practical management skills and grow your career in the recreation industry, this could be the role for you.

As a Senior Lifeguard at EA Networks Centre, you won’t just be watching the water. You’ll be helping lead the team and keeping a busy aquatic facility running safely and smoothly.

What the job involves

You’ll be one of our go-to leaders on poolside, supporting and guiding our Lifeguard team while helping create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Along the way, you’ll build valuable, transferable skills in:

  • Leadership and shift supervision, supporting staff and helping coordinate the day-to-day operation of the pools
  • Risk prevention and management, identifying hazards and making sound decisions to keep people safe
  • Emergency and first aid response, staying calm and taking action when it matters
  • Coaching and training, helping other Lifeguards build their confidence and capability
  • Customer service, working with a wide range of people and handling situations professionally
  • Health, safety and water quality, developing practical operational experience in a busy aquatic environment

It’s a fantastic opportunity to get leadership experience under your belt while developing skills that can take you further within aquatics, recreation and beyond.

Your weekly roster

  • Sunday: 6:30am to 3:00pm
  • Monday to Thursday: 5:30am to 2:00pm
  • Friday and Saturday: Your days off

Who are we looking for?

You don’t necessarily need to arrive knowing everything. You might already be a Lifeguard ready for your next challenge, or you may bring experience from recreation, sport, fitness, customer service or another role where you’ve had responsibility for people and safety.

What matters is that you’re someone who:

  • Is keen to step up and develop as a leader
  • Stays calm under pressure and can make good decisions
  • Enjoys helping, mentoring and encouraging others
  • Communicates confidently with staff and customers
  • Takes safety seriously and can spot potential risks
  • Is reliable, approachable and enjoys being part of a team
  • Wants to learn, grow and build a career in recreation

Don't tick every box yet? That's okay. We'll provide training and support to help you build your capability and grow into the role.

What’s in it for you?

This is more than just your next job. It’s a chance to invest in where you want to go next.

You’ll get:

  • Free gym and pool access at EA Networks Centre
  • Real leadership experience to strengthen your CV and future career
  • Training and professional development to build your capability
  • Hands-on operational experience in safety, risk management and emergency response
  • Set full-time hours so you know when you’re working
  • A supportive team environment where you can learn from experienced recreation professionals
  • An awesome lifestyle outside work, with Mt Hutt, Lake Hood and the wider Ashburton District on your doorstep

Who are we?

EA Networks Centre is Ashburton’s indoor stadium and aquatic complex and a hub for sport, recreation and community activity.

As part of Ashburton District Council, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills in an organisation where recreation careers can go well beyond poolside.
