Summer Student: Museum Collections Care Opportunity

Rokowhiria Ashburton Art Gallery and Museum is seeking a motivated summer student to join our team for an 8 - 12 week collection care internship. This is an exciting opportunity to gain practical museum experience while helping improve the storage, organisation, and accessibility of our collections.

Working alongside our archivist and collections manager, you will assist with collection audits, object handling, storage improvements, cataloguing, preventative conservation, and occasional exhibition installation projects. In this role you will:

  • Build practical skills in collections care, documentation, and online collection management systems.
  • Contribute to meaningful behind-the-scenes work that supports long-term preservation.
  • Develop experience relevant to careers in museums, archives, galleries, and cultural heritage.

This role would suit someone interested in museums, history, art, or archives, and who enjoys careful, practical, detail-focused work.
