About the role
As a Library Assistant, you'll provide outstanding customer service while helping create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone who visits Te Whare Whakatere. You'll support a wide range of library services and programmes that encourage lifelong learning and community connection.
Day-to-day, your responsibilities may include:
- Issuing, returning, renewing and shelving library items.
- Assisting customers with enquiries and helping them access library resources.
- Supporting community programmes and events.
- Processing payments for Council services.
- Contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of the library.

About you
You're someone who enjoys helping people and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service. You're approachable, organised, and enjoy working as part of a team while also being confident working independently.
You will bring:
- A friendly and professional approach when interacting with people of all ages.
- Strong communication and computer skills.
- Previous customer service experience (library experience is advantageous but not essential).
- An interest in books, learning and community engagement.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn - full training will be provided.
This is a permanent part-time position working 6 hours every Sunday.
We're also looking for someone who has the flexibility to work additional shifts from time to time to help cover planned and unplanned staff absences.
